JOB TITLE: Community Response Behavioral Health Clinician

REPORTS TO: The Community Response Behavioral Health Clinician will report to Chief Clinical Officer

JOB SUMMARY:  The Community Response Behavioral Health Clinician will work in collaboration with Cobb County Fire and EMS and Cobb County Police Department on the Community Response Team with a focus on reduction of non- emergency 911 calls.  The clinician will respond in the community as member of the team with primary function of assessment of potential mental health and/or substance use disorders.  The clinician will assist with linkage to appropriate services for ongoing treatment.  Additionally, where deemed necessary the clinician will execute the 1013/2013 for transport to an emergency receiving facility for assessment for inpatient admission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responding as a member of the Community Response to perform behavioral health assessment and intervention for those persons accessing 911 for non-emergent needs. 
  • Responding with Community Response Team for active 911 calls which appear to have a mental health or substance use component
  • Initiate 1013/2013 process for transport for emergency evaluation for inpatient treatment when deemed necessary.
  • Assesses immediate needs and assists individuals in identifying appropriate resources for additional assistance for meeting those needs.
  • Identifies social and community service agency options and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Coordinates with team members follow up contacts on individuals with over utilization of 911 system.
  • Attends staffings/case meetings with team members as required.
  • Adheres to all documentation standards and requirements.
  • Educates community partners programs and services available for individuals.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of DSM-V and determining mental health and/or substance abuse diagnoses
  • Knowledge of addictive diseases and/or mental health disorders and their impact on an individual’s functioning.
  • Knowledge of standard practices for crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Knowledge of police and fire/ems procedures.

SKILLS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiar with computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), e-mail, fax, and scanning.

  • Ability to make independent decisions and act on these decisions effectively in a highly charged emergency and crisis situations.

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Primary duties of this position are performed in a community setting.  The outdoor environment may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and potential hazards related fire and police response.  This position responds to and resolves difficult and stressful situations including dealing with hostility, in a fair, tactful, and professional manner.
  • This position will be housed in the community at a Cobb Fire/Rescue facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education - Master's Degree in behavioral healthcare field.
  •  Licensure/Certification - Job related license, (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT)   
  • Experience – Minimum 3 -5 years of human services, social work and/or clinical experience
  • Mobile Crisis experience a plus

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience – Minimum 5 plus years of human services, social work and/or clinical experience
