JOB TITLE:  Substance Use Counselor   

PROGRAM:  Hartmann                                                      

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:  Hartmann is a residential treatment program for adolescents with substance abuse issues and/or co-occurring disorders. The Counselor works in the Hartmann Center to provide substance abuse education and to foster recovery skill building. The Counselor provides individual, family and group counseling and additional services to youth who are enrolled in Hartmann programming in an effort to improve outcomes for youth. Seeking to contribute to the success of the Hartmann youth as well as the agency as a whole, the Counselor will provide services to youth on their caseload in an effort to reach goals related to the Hartmann contract including reduction of use, increased family functioning and a reduction of recidivism as it relates to the juvenile justice system. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy; complete documentation (ex. progress notes, treatment plans, 30 day reviews, safety plans) in effort to ensure that high quality therapeutic services are provided.
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings and collaborate with Hartmann staff, community partners and family caretakers as it relates to youth challenges, progress and achievement of treatment goals.
  • Provide referrals to additional C&A services (ex. stepdown) for youth returning home to other counties through Georgia through assessing and evaluating client needs, strengths, goals and resources.
  • Intervene, stabilize and manage acute crisis situations and complete incident reports when necessary.
  • Maintain licensure/credentials by completing all recommended continuing education requirements per licensing board requirements.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of DSM 5 and common addictive diseases and mental health disorders and their impact on an individual’s functioning
  • Knowledge of appropriate therapeutic boundaries for working with vulnerable populations

SKILLS

  • Experience completing clinical documentation within an electronic medical record
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail
  • Familiar with computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), e-mail, fax, and scanning

ABILITIES

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and carry out a variety of critical and time sensitive projects without detailed instructions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality for all indirect/direct service in accordance with agency and HIPPA policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, staff, internal and external stakeholders

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires interaction with co-workers, residents and vendors
  • Ability to lift: Up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to climb up and down building stairs
  • Ability to walk a reasonable distance when on community outings
  • Ability to drive and/or ride in a 15 passenger van

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs):

  • Maintain Agency performance expectations 100% of the time.
  • Complete all required documentation same day services are delivered/end of shift (except for after-hours notes which documentation is due by 11:00 AM next business day
  • Complete and provide quality, collaborative service documentation 100% of the time.
  • 99% accurate on entering information in EMR.
  • 100% of require trainings will be completed within specified time frames.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education – High School Diploma/GED
  2. Licensure/Certification - Job related license (e.g., CAC1, CADC, CAADC)
  3. Experience – Minimum one-year (1) of human services, social work and/or clinical experience with child and adolescent population.
  4. Other – Criminal background check clearance, official academic transcripts, valid driver’s license/ID, drug screen, TB test, eligible 7yr MVR

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  1. Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or related field
  2. Licensure/Certification – MAC – Master Addictions Counselor
